Helping at a wedding reception (Service)

Helping out at the wedding reception increased my awareness of my own strength in the area of social skills. By pushing me to be able to have multiple small conversations with guests and challenged me to increase and develop my world knowledge in order to keep up with those conversations. Throughout the wedding reception I needed to initiate activities such as playing games in order to keep the guests occupied. The planning of the gift bags, the boxes for envelopes, the creating of the playlist and the planning on when the bride would enter and the doors would close was the most challenging aspect. It was necessary for me to work collaboratively with the bridesmaids, the wedding planner and the wedding couples families in order to ensure that everything would run smoothly like they wanted.  The wedding required full attention for the entire weekend and I only got 4 hours of sleep each night as the bridesmaids...

Babysitting - Service

(LO1) New skills – ability to change diapers, study how babies act and what they need depending on their facial expressions or if they cry. (LO2) Commitment – times where the baby would want to be carried in my arms while needing me to also walk around for hours was very tiring and my arm would constantly be in pain but I wanted to put the comfort and happiness of my nephew as priority (LO3) Developed skills – techniques to carry the baby, ability to know the baby’s sleeping and eating schedule (LO4) Challenge...

Baseball – Activity

Baseball turned out to be quite a fun experience although I did wish we played on a field rather than with the mechanic machine but I did get to try pitching the ball as well. (LO1 – undertaken new challenges) The first challenge was choosing which speed was right for me as there were different sections where the balls would be hit at different mph, some of the speeds on the machine were so high, they were throwing at the same rate as a professional baseball pitcher was, and that’s crazy! The second challenge was to know how to stand correctly so that I can properly hit the ball, the biggest challenge though was actually hitting the ball, it was much harder than I thought it would be in all honesty. I did do a lot better than my sister though, on the bright side, after a very tiring few hours, I now know how to hit and pitch a baseball. (LO2 – commitment and perseverance) At first I thought it was going to be easy but it was nothing like I expected. I continued to play round ...

Baking A Cake - Activity/Creativity

( LO1 ) I have always loved baking cupcakes, cookies and biscuits along with many different types of baked goods but I have never tried to bake a full actual cake on my own. I have watched many series on how to bake a cake and know exactly what you need to do to be successful in baking one but sometimes it's not the literal knowledge that you need but more so the experience. I figured I have never had experience in baking a cake so I can't possibly be successful. ( LO2 ) Then I realized that people with experience started somewhere and that you can't just get experience without doing something for the first time, I decided I might as well commit to seeing this experience through because what's the worse that can happen? I fail? That's alright, at least I would've tried.

Helping out for Song kran celebration at school (Service)

For the celebration of the festivities in my school, the teachers had asked for volunteers to help with the activities that were happening on the field and hard court. I worked on the field since morning along with my friend, I was at the sponge station. It was challenging as I kept needing to run back and forth to make sure that the students and kids were having sponges to throw at the teachers as well as ensure that there was enough water in the buckets. The new skills I developed was the skill of working collaboratively with my friends and plan who was going to help out with which activity. Towards the end of the day, we had all changed places so that we could help out with almost every activity. We planned who would come set up the equipment necessary for the activities. The area of personal growth for me that was developed was the constant motivation that was necessary for me to finish all these activities. Required a lot of commitment as at one point it was very tiring and th...

MUN - Activity

Firstly, I always wanted to participate in MUN but I was always afraid that I would not be as smart as the rest of the people there or be capable of coming up with the same quality of statements and arguments as they could. However, once I heard that our school GIS was organizing our very first ever MUN, I was interested and figured I may as well try it somewhere where I am comfortable first before going to participate in the large ones. (LO1) I was already really good at debates about worldwide issues and basically about anything not science related but I realized that I only ever had a debate with people in my class or people I know, not strangers or people from other schools so I felt by debating with them I could gain wider knowledge. (LO2) The challenges I encountered were that many students were a lot more prepared than me and the people within my committee had more experience which made me very nervous, the people there were of a lot of help, especially the chairs since I had...

LAMDA Gold Medal Exam - Creativity

I have done a few Lamda exams over the years and took drama as an Igcse subject so this year I decided to do the last level exam which was Grade 8 the gold medal. (LO1)  I'm able to memorize monologues very quickly so it eliminates one of the many hard obstacles of the exam. However, what I need to develop is the range of emotions for each character as there are 3 exams so that I do not end up having the same emotion in each monologue. (LO2) Another challenge was the knowledge section of the exam where we had to choose a practitioner to learn about and be tested on. I chose Constantin Stanislavski as I remembered his acting techniques from researching about him during my Igcses. The lamda examiner questioned me about how Stanislavski turned realism to naturalism withn acting and what were his teachings. (LO3) The perseverance part was the hardest as I would struggle to split my time between homework, school work and revision that I usually do during my free periods that would be re...

Chinese New Year Dance - Activity

(LO1) I have performed quite a few dances before in school but I have never performed a hip-hop fast beat song as I never thought I would be capable of doing the dance properly and correctly. Now that I have actually rehearsed it and performed it, I have discovered that I am capable of dancing hip-hop if I actually try to and put in effort. (LO2) The challenge was having to learn the dance moves within a short amount of time, me and Panittha only had 2 hours with Nokweed to learn the dance so we had to rehearse separately on our own whenever we could. Especially since it was a fast song it was challenging to make sure that we do not miss a beat. (LO3) Working with Panittha to rehearse the dance choreography ourselves made it a lot easier because we would both help each other with the parts that we are certain of and whichever part one of us was unsure of how to do it or couldn't do it fast enough, we would practice it over and over again until we knew how to do it. (LO4) I have...

Organizing valentine's day - Service

Organizing Valentine's day was the most stressful and hardest thing I have ever had to do in school so far but after it ended, it turned to become the most amazing and eye-opening experience/event of my life so far. (LO1) First, I wanted to organize it because I knew that I was good at organizing finance and persuading people to follow my cause. I wanted to develop that strength of mine by organizing this event. (LO2) The event turned out to be bigger than the recent previous years, causing many problems as it was hard to manage hundreds of flowers and chocolates. The main challenge was to manage to collect each individuals order and to calculate how much each person owed as people would continuously keep ordering at different times. (LO3) I contacted the flower shop to discuss prices with them and went to Makro (a department store) to check the prices for each 24 and 48 boxes of kit kat. I started out with creating the spreadsheet and google form so people could order the ...

Cooking a Burrito from Scratch - Activity

I was at home, feeling hungry during the weekend and my maid told me she was too tired to cook me food so I decided to cook food myself which I rarely ever do as I never know what to make. However, I decided to cook a burrito. (LO1) I felt like it was quite challenging as I had to learn how to chop vegetables correctly, to slice chicken up to cook it, when the food was done cooking and so on... but it has helped me through the fact that now I realize I am capable of cooking food for myself and this will help me a lot when I go to university in 1 year and a half. (LO2) I already knew how to cook a bit because I watch members of my family prepare meals but as a skill for me, it had not been developed until recently due to this activity. (LO3) It was really tiring to be preparing the ingredients to make the food then having to go through the process of cooking it at the same time but I didn't stop because I wanted to be able to cook my own meal all by myself. (LO4) As a strength, I...

Translating Hand to Hand Website (English to Thai) - Service

"Jezabel along with several others worked on a project to translate materials from Thai to English. This was a project identified by students support the Hand to Hand Foundation in Pattaya. In relied on Jezabel using her language skills in a service capacity" - Mr Croft CAS Coordinator  The founder of Hand to Hand foundation came to our to discuss about their school and foundation, including what we could do to help them raise money and improve their facilities. The main issue they had with their website was that they would need a person to translate everything on it, not only that sometimes the google translate on the website itself is inaccurate. Sometimes they have volunteers who do it for free but those volunteers are hard to find so me and other people in IB decided to volunteer to do it. Firstly, we decided to split up the areas of the website. Each pair would be translating at least 2-3 sections of the website. (LO1) As my friend Nokweed is doing Thai A and I am doin...
